( 0 0 1 ) » WAKE UP

Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter: when you come to, there's an odd taste in your mouth and there's a low-level mechanical hum in the air. Your head hurts and you feel nauseous. You aren't anywhere you know: everything around you is metal, from the floor you lie on all the way to the ceiling. You are dressed in a jumpsuit you definitely weren't wearing before.

"We tried to save the world. I think— I think we did the opposite."

The message repeats on a loop. If you look for its source, you find a comms device on the floor next to you. The logo on its wallpaper says REVERIE TERMINAL. Upon closer inspection, you find the same logo on your jumpsuit.

Welcome to your new home. What choice do you have but to explore your surroundings?

( 0 0 1 . 1 ) » WAKE UP WHERE?
When you wake up, you find that you're not alone. But more importantly, you find that you're in a closet. An empty closet, bar you and your new companion. It's small, cramped, and there is no door that you can see. The ceiling is low, there is barely any lights, only some coming from the tiny flashlight clipped to your suit's shoulder. You cannot be sure that there is any air coming in to the room.

Are these grooves in the wall supposed to mean something?

( 0 0 2 ) » OBSERVATION DECK

There were no windows in the corridor you woke up in and no windows in any of the crew quarters you might have checked for occupants — but there are plenty of windows on the uppermost level of the station, deck 1. In fact, there are windows from floor to ceiling all along the circumference of the station's circular deck, and it's possible to walk along it all. What it shows is a strange solar system you've never seen before and a planet that might resemble one you know, but certainly isn't the same.

You're in space. You don't know where you are. Neither does anyone else.

( 0 0 3 ) » BAR

On deck 3, you find the bar. Tucked away from the crew quarters, it's dimly lit, there are bar stools thrown down on the floor and what looks like some very old drink spills, crusty and dark against the bar top. But there is alcohol here, or at least, what you think is alcohol, in bottles with faded labels, most of them indecipherable. Take a drink, get drunk, start a fight, or start a party? You're stuck on this station, might as well make the most of it, right?

( 0 0 4 ) » SPACEQUAKES

One second, you are is walking. Magnetic boots are on, the ground feels solid enough, for a metal deck in a space station. Everything is perfectly fine, or at least as fine as it can be, given that you still don't know where you are or how you came to be here.

The next moment, it's like everything explodes around you. You're thrown against the wall as sparks erupts from electrical panels, as the whole station rumbles and shakes around you. You fall to the deck, earning yourself scratches from the grating. When you look up, it's like nothing has happened. No wires hanging from open panels, no flickering lights, no more shaking. Like an earthquake in space.

The station features a variety of locations, from sleeping quarters free for the claiming to a dirty swimming pool and a bar that still holds alcohol (though some of the bottles seem to have been opened a while ago).

Go wild, but don't wreck the place. It's your home for the foreseeable future, after all.

[ her expression dims some at the "joke." she knew enough men who had been killed for simple mistakes, human mistakes. but that's war, isn't it? ]

You still haven't answered my question. [ she takes a long sip of her hydration pack without ever taking her expectant and bright eyes off of his face. ]

[ jim tilts his head and feigns innocence. had he avoid the question? must have been busy getting lost in her eyes. ]

You're right, I haven't.

[ and he continues not answering her question. he picks at some food, pops it into his mouth. ]

I wasn't aware we'd suddenly instituted an interrogation room in the mess hall. You're a lot better looking than previous people that have questioned me. I approve.

[ some of that stony confidence falters at the compliment - is it even a compliment? her nose wrinkles and she knows she must be giving away her uncertainty with too expressive eyes. they make up for her overall stoicism elsewhere. ]

I'm certain I don't care what you approve of.

[ she stabs something that could have been a vegetable in its prime and shakes her head at him. it lacks the conviction of her usual booming speeches, it's hard to even get offended these days. about anything. let alone something so petty. ]

That's not very nice.

[ jim still looks mildly amused, something that only grows brither when she viciously jabs at something on her plate. someone's got a lot of pent up issues, don't they? ]

Shouldn't you be asking yourself what you're doing to get yourself out of here? Why do you care what I'm doing?

I don't particularly care for unnecessary niceties either.

[ she bites her fork noisily, eyes narrowing at him now. ]

I'm working. We all need to if we want to get out of here. I've seen you - usually around the bar. [ not. impressed. step it up jim!!!!! ]

That's no way to make friends.

[ he gets the feeling that she's not particularly concerned with that either. that's going to leave you with a lonely existence. ]

And are you looking in on me all the time? How do you know I'm not working? Even someone like me needs a break every now and then and I like the ambiance of the bar.

[ he liked the shitty booze too. ]

All my friends are dead. [ for a good cause, yes, but the point still stands. ]

I don't have time to look in on you, but it's hard not to notice how much time you spend there. We all have to stay sharp, don't you think?

And that means you can never make any more friends ever?

[ that sounded like a sad situation there. did you really wanna be forever alone!!! ]

I'm sharp. I'm sharp as a tack.

[ but he was feeling called out here. ]

If you're seeing me in the bar, means you're there too. Drowning your sorrows?

That isn't what I said.

[ she just heavily implied it!!! ]

I'm not here to make friends - I'm here to get everyone home.

[ fine. f i n e. a beat and she tips her head, setting her fork down and leaning in a little. ] Even rebel soldiers need a break now and again, I suppose. But just one drink's worth.

[ wait did she just ask u out???? sorta ]

[ didn't matter if she or hadn't because jim was taking it as an invitation and already rising to his feet, looking at her expectantly as he does. ]

Well?

[ rebel soldiers don't move that fast, do they? ]

Or are you going to wait for me to bring the bar to you?

Now? [ she looks down at her lunch, only half-eaten. not that she's particularly keen to finish, either. ] I'll catch you up.

[ it's a bit warmer as jyn decides to make the effort for a change. the lunch rush is almost through, more people leaving the mess than coming in. ]

I still have some work to do here.

Uh huh.

[ jim rolls his eyes and air quotes the word 'work' as he turns and heads to the door. ]

You know where to find me. At the bar, having a drink and ruining your expectations.

[ it was a talent. he gave her a two fingered wave as he left, already betting himself if she'd show or not. ]

[ it is nearly an hour later, but true to her word, jyn shows up. she pokes her head in first cautiously, unsurprised to see a light crowd with the liquor supply dwindling. but sat in a booth is the man she'd come to meet. he's a curious sort, someone she can't quite pin down. it's what makes him so infuriatingly fascinating, she supposes.

jyn slides into the bench across from him and drops her elbows to the table, bright eyes boring into his, insistently demanding his attention as ever. ]

Did you wager for or against me? [ what? sometimes she intuits these things. ]

Against.

[ he says it without hesitation, doesn't even try to lie. ]

You did look oh so busy when I last saw you.

[ eating crappy food and interrogating random people takes up a lot of time. ]

I'm pleasantly surprised.

[ his admittance makes her smile, something she immediately tries to quash back down. ]

I was very busy. Official Rebel business, you know.

[ jyn nods once, serious. it feels good to joke, she doesn't feel like she's ever had cause to really. no time to stop and laugh about inconsequential things. ]

Hold onto that feeling, I do try to remain predictable most of the time. [ two jokes in a row. this is some kind of record. ]

Oh yes. Rebel business, sure.

[ he folds his hands together, plays along since it looks like she's actually loosening up and he'd like to keep going in that direction. ]

I'd hate to see what happens when another rebel comes on board. Then, I'll just never see you again.

[ he smirks at her. he'd seen her a few times in passing but this was their longest conversation so far. ]

But, you made it eventually. I can deal with being surprised.

[ she sobers at that ]

Bodhi is here, we're the only ones.

[ from rogue one, from the alliance. she laces her fingers on the table and straightens her back against her seat. ]

A friend of mine said I'm full of surprises the last time I saw him. [ the last time anyone saw k-2 ]

Did he? Well, from what I've seen, he might be right.

( she looks so serious that he just wants to find a way to get under her skin, maybe see if he draw some kind of reaction that isn't a glare or a crisp reply from her. )

I've only seen one of these surprises.

( jim leans forward, watching her position with his own, mimicking her. )

Show me another.

[ jyn frowns, watching him copy her and wondering what he wants. someone always wanted something from her. the only thing she can think to show him is the one item that had inexplicably come with her here. she draws out the necklace her mother had left her from the top of her jumpsuit. ]

It's a kyber crystal. [ like that's supposed to mean something to him. at least she trusts him not to steal it??? ]

It's pretty.

( he doesn't reach out to touch it, just leans closer and gets a better look at it. jim's never really been one to wear jewelry and it would probably get in the way but he can appreciate how it looks on other people. )

Kyber crystals rare where you're from?

[ she swallows, but leaves it out of her jumpsuit even as her hands fall away. ]

Very rare. They can be used to generate energy fields, so governments mine them for war.

Energy fields?

( his brows knit together and his eyes flick down to the crystal before moving back up to her. )

What's the significance of an energy crystal where you're from?

That's right. The Jedis use them in lightsabers. Uh. Laser swords.

[ a face is made. it's so bizarre that he isn't familiar with the force. that scarcely anyone here is. ]

It's the strongest material known to man. Is there anything like that in your universe?

I'm sure there is but it's not something that I've been allowed to play with.

( and what a sad thing that was, right? he was responsible, he was important, if the federation knew these things, they should be telling him. )

But, we're discovering new planets all the time so who knows, I might get lucky and be the guy that stumbles upon the metal that gets named after me. Has to measure up, be the best for that to happen.

[ there it is. ] So, that's your concern. Being the best.

[ it isn't a question, she knows the sort. ]
