TEST DRIVE #002

TEST DRIVE #002

( 0 0 1 ) » WAKE UP
Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter: when you come to, there's an odd taste in your mouth and there's a low-level mechanical hum in the air. Your head hurts and you feel nauseous. You aren't anywhere you know: everything around you is metal, from the floor you lie on all the way to the ceiling. You are dressed in a jumpsuit you definitely weren't wearing before.

"We tried to save the world. I think— I think we did the opposite."

The message repeats on a loop. If you look for its source, you find a comms device on the floor next to you. The logo on its wallpaper says REVERIE TERMINAL. Upon closer inspection, you find the same logo on your jumpsuit.

Welcome to your new home. What choice do you have but to explore your surroundings?
( 0 0 1 . 1 ) » WAKE UP WHERE?
When you wake up, you find that you're not alone. But more importantly, you find that you're in a closet. An empty closet, bar you and your new companion. It's small, cramped, and there is no door that you can see. The ceiling is low, there is barely any lights, only some coming from the tiny flashlight clipped to your suit's shoulder. You cannot be sure that there is any air coming in to the room.

Are these grooves in the wall supposed to mean something?

( 0 0 2 ) » OBSERVATION DECK
There were no windows in the corridor you woke up in and no windows in any of the crew quarters you might have checked for occupants — but there are plenty of windows on the uppermost level of the station, deck 1. In fact, there are windows from floor to ceiling all along the circumference of the station's circular deck, and it's possible to walk along it all. What it shows is a strange solar system you've never seen before and a planet that might resemble one you know, but certainly isn't the same.

You're in space. You don't know where you are. Neither does anyone else.

( 0 0 3 ) » BAR
On deck 3, you find the bar. Tucked away from the crew quarters, it's dimly lit, there are bar stools thrown down on the floor and what looks like some very old drink spills, crusty and dark against the bar top. But there is alcohol here, or at least, what you think is alcohol, in bottles with faded labels, most of them indecipherable. Take a drink, get drunk, start a fight, or start a party? You're stuck on this station, might as well make the most of it, right?

( 0 0 4 ) » SPACEQUAKES
One second, you are is walking. Magnetic boots are on, the ground feels solid enough, for a metal deck in a space station. Everything is perfectly fine, or at least as fine as it can be, given that you still don't know where you are or how you came to be here.

The next moment, it's like everything explodes around you. You're thrown against the wall as sparks erupts from electrical panels, as the whole station rumbles and shakes around you. You fall to the deck, earning yourself scratches from the grating. When you look up, it's like nothing has happened. No wires hanging from open panels, no flickering lights, no more shaking. Like an earthquake in space.

( 0 0 5 ) » NETWORK
The comms device you found next to you when waking up connects to a station-wide network, REVERIE NET. You have the option to post video, voice or text messages.

What will you share?

( 0 0 6 ) » WILDCARD
The station features a variety of locations, from sleeping quarters free for the claiming to a dirty swimming pool and a bar that still holds alcohol (though some of the bottles seem to have been opened a while ago).

Go wild, but don't wreck the place. It's your home for the foreseeable future, after all.

great. i'm in a brand-new cage. a metal cage, at least, but this whole melting doors thing is bullshit.

is it true that we're all from different universes?
do sentinel services or the x-men mean anything to anyone?
[ she might as well get all her enemies out in the open first thing, right? ]

( 002 )
[ there's a green-haired young woman perched on the observation deck, staring out into space with a look of intensity on her expression. around her hands, green energy glows, fingers moving gently-- manipulating what looks like a few loose bolts, perhaps, that float just a few inches above her head.

when she hears a footstep, she whirls, glaring, the bolts going suddenly still and threatening. ]
What do you want?

( 006 )
[ hit her up anywhere tbh! also as a note, uhh.. not sure what canon-point to pull her from yet. consider it nebulously mid-season. ]

[personal profile] magneticfields 2018-05-22 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Erik hadn't missed the young woman's message on the network. He just didn't respond, as he isn't interested in making his abilities publicly known just yet. He does seek her out, though. It's easier than he expected, as he can feel the fields she generates to manipulate the bolts. It's subtle, but unmistakable.

He's never met another mutant who had powers similar to his. The prospect is more exciting than he would have guessed. Still, he's not seeking her out to discuss that. ]

If Sentinel Services were here, do you think advertising yourself on the network is the best course of action?

[ her hand twitches, and the bolts fall into her palm, fingers curling around them in a fist. her mouth twists a moment later, brittle and vicious. ] If they're here, so much the better. They don't have any of their toys, and I still have my powers.

[ and she's not above doing what she must to protect herself. herself and-- her free hand steals across her belly uncertainly. she hasn't felt the baby the same way here that she had at home, and she doesn't know what that means.

but-- he's familiar, isn't he? she's pretty sure she's seen him.. somewhere. ]
Who the hell are you, anyway?
magneticfields: (flannel)

[personal profile] magneticfields 2018-05-23 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ The anger radiates off of her in a way that is uncomfortably familiar. Like a memory he'd rather not think about. ]

You're sure of that?

[ He'd been here nearly a month and wasn't sure. But if she had some kind of information to confirm that, he wants to hear it. ]

They know me as Henryk Gurszky. But my name is Erik Lehsnherr. Or Magneto, depending on the circumstances. Who are you?
weaponised: theseareicons | dw (but we bottle in)

[personal profile] weaponised 2018-05-23 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ she's reasonably sure. unless their captors, whoever they are, are making exceptions for bigots-- which she wouldn't be especially surprised about. still, they'd still be trapped with her on a station comprised almost entirely of metal, so she's pretty confident that she'd be fine.

and she's about to open her mouth and say all that when he says erik lehnsherr and her eyes go wide and stunned and a little haunted in her face. that's why he'd looked familiar, that's where she'd seen him, and she sucks in a breath, freezing in place as she tries to make sense of it.

magneto had her powers. they'd been almost exactly alike, save for the ways hers manifested. how had she never let herself suspect? (maybe because he'd never been around.)

the energy around her fingers disappears entirely, and her lips part, shut. she takes another breath, steadying herself, and tries again. ]

Lorna. Polaris. [ her mouth presses thin uncertainly. he's.. younger than he had been the last time she'd seen him. he probably wouldn't know anything about her, but.. ] I hear.. [ she trails off, then rises to her feet, dusting her stupid jumpsuit off to keep from having to look at him. ] I hear you're my father. Supposedly.

heat helps when they decide they're no longer melting when you're trying to pass through them.

[ pro-tip. ]

i'm sorry, but no. they're not familiar to me.
where was your cage?
weaponised: theseareicons | dw (imagine this: we make things right)

[personal profile] weaponised 2018-05-22 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
i should be able to pull them open. it's metal. this place doesn't make any damn sense.

i've had a couple. the last one even had jumpsuits.

[personal profile] catastrophics 2018-05-22 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
what's metal got to do with it?

[ she asks, though she thinks she can guess. ]

mine too.
did yours have collars?

i'm a mutant. [ and proud of it. ] i can manipulate metal.

you too, huh?

There aren't any X-Men here. Or they're blessedly quiet, if there are.

they're all gone, as far as i know. they disappeared.

[personal profile] supersonic 2018-05-22 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Then that's a point toward your alternate universes theory. The last time I saw them they were quite solid.

[ ...Concerning. ]

You put an awful lot of faith in them. Isn't there anyone else?
weaponised: theseareicons | dw (stick to our guns & all our sins)

[personal profile] weaponised 2018-05-22 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't put any faith in them. but they're mutants and we could use their help.
supersonic: (haet ur face)

[personal profile] supersonic 2018-05-22 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
In my experience, they haven't proved much better than humans, but I suppose there is something to be said for numbers.

whoops, more to post

[personal profile] weaponised 2018-05-23 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
or know, i guess.
it's fucking weird to think that there's another universe that much like mine.
supersonic: (blah blah blah)

[personal profile] supersonic 2018-05-23 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Percussively" would be more accurate, if we're choosing adverbs -- in that I have hit several of them in the face, not had a spectacular number of intimate conversations.

Time travel is just as likely. It's 1967 for me, if that is any less weird.
weaponised: theseareicons | dw (we might cheat death if we worship it)

[Claire's just here to look out at space, but it's the green glowing that ends up stealing her attention away. She stares, because how can she not? She's never seen someone with a power be open with it, and she isn't really sure how to act. Do people like them have a secret handshake she's supposed to know or something? Unsure of what to say at first, she points toward the woman's hand.]

Are you from the Company?

[Because her worrying this is all some kind of elaborate trap meant to do something to her is starting to feel really real right about now. Looking fearful, she takes a cautious step back.]
weaponised: theseareicons | dw (& all those fragile things we are)

[personal profile] weaponised 2018-05-23 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
The what?

[ if claire thought that step back would make this girl less aggressive, well, she was wrong. if anything, lorna's looking more pissed off, considering what she's lived with for most of her life-- people fearing her, hating her, just for being born different.

the bolts drop into her fingers, and she clenches her fist around them. it's less immediately threatening, but the green energy hasn't gone away. ]
What company?
cheerleader: (tell me how you really feel)

[personal profile] cheerleader 2018-05-23 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
[This isn't going well. Maybe you're not supposed to ask people if they're agents for the people who are ruining your life? She at least stops walking backwards and instead extends her hand, like that's going to protect her if she's attacked.]

I'm not sure. They're just called the Company. They keep trying to take me away from my family because of what I am.

Could be true. I know a Polaris back in my universe. Know the whole family.

[She knows some of that family quite well, actually.]

So, yes and yes.
