[ Holding him like this, Apollo realises just how much he has missed Midnighter's embrace. The feeling of those twin hearts, hammering steadily in Midnighter’s chest pressed against his. The stability of him, the muscle and sinew and reinforced solidness of the way his husband feels in his arms. The graze of stubble, faintly red in the amber sunlight that floods through the observation deck window, and the residual smell of well-worn leather. Everything, all of it, makes his heart ache and his head swim with the pure giddy delight of having Midnighter back in his arms. It’s intoxicating, so much so that Midnighter’s words nearly pass him by. Nearly.

Apollo pulls away a fraction, arms slackening just enough to let him give Midnighter a puzzled look. ]

Wait. What do you mean?

[ His gaze slides away beyond Midnighter and out to the starry expanse beyond the observation deck window. Apollo had expected to see the silhouette of the Carrier somewhere out there, glittering against the alien sunlight. But now that he looks he realises there’s nothing there except for twinkling starlight and more infinite space.

Apollo's blue gaze flickers back to meet his husband's, his brows pinched in a frown. Worry seizes him tight in his stomach like a fist. ]

The others... they aren't with you?
