( 0 0 1 ) » WAKE UP

Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter: when you come to, there's an odd taste in your mouth and there's a low-level mechanical hum in the air. Your head hurts and you feel nauseous. You aren't anywhere you know: everything around you is metal, from the floor you lie on all the way to the ceiling. You are dressed in a jumpsuit you definitely weren't wearing before.

"We tried to save the world. I think— I think we did the opposite."

The message repeats on a loop. If you look for its source, you find a comms device on the floor next to you. The logo on its wallpaper says REVERIE TERMINAL. Upon closer inspection, you find the same logo on your jumpsuit.

Welcome to your new home. What choice do you have but to explore your surroundings?

( 0 0 1 . 1 ) » WAKE UP WHERE?

When you wake up, you find that you're not alone. But more importantly, you find that you're in a closet. An empty closet, bar you and your new companion. It's small, cramped, and there is no door that you can see. The ceiling is low, there is barely any lights, only some coming from the tiny flashlight clipped to your suit's shoulder. You cannot be sure that there is any air coming in to the room.

Are these grooves in the wall supposed to mean something?

( 0 0 2 ) » OBSERVATION DECK

There were no windows in the corridor you woke up in and no windows in any of the crew quarters you might have checked for occupants — but there are plenty of windows on the uppermost level of the station, deck 1. In fact, there are windows from floor to ceiling all along the circumference of the station's circular deck, and it's possible to walk along it all. What it shows is a strange solar system you've never seen before and a planet that might resemble one you know, but certainly isn't the same.

You're in space. You don't know where you are. Neither does anyone else.

On deck 3, you find the bar. Tucked away from the crew quarters, it's dimly lit, there are bar stools thrown down on the floor and what looks like some very old drink spills, crusty and dark against the bar top. But there is alcohol here, or at least, what you think is alcohol, in bottles with faded labels, most of them indecipherable. Take a drink, get drunk, start a fight, or start a party? You're stuck on this station, might as well make the most of it, right?

( 0 0 4 ) » SPACEQUAKES

One second, you are is walking. Magnetic boots are on, the ground feels solid enough, for a metal deck in a space station. Everything is perfectly fine, or at least as fine as it can be, given that you still don't know where you are or how you came to be here.

The next moment, it's like everything explodes around you. You're thrown against the wall as sparks erupts from electrical panels, as the whole station rumbles and shakes around you. You fall to the deck, earning yourself scratches from the grating. When you look up, it's like nothing has happened. No wires hanging from open panels, no flickering lights, no more shaking. Like an earthquake in space.

The station features a variety of locations, from sleeping quarters free for the claiming to a dirty swimming pool and a bar that still holds alcohol (though some of the bottles seem to have been opened a while ago).

Go wild, but don't wreck the place. It's your home for the foreseeable future, after all.

Uhhh. Because music is the greatest? It's cross-culture communication. Inkling, Octoling, everyone can understand a bop. You don't even need language to get it!

Also, this place is super dreary. I mean, walking around the ruins of an extinct civilization... It's fascinating, but it's SO CREEPY! If the station has a sound system, we should at least get some music going!

and it's frustrating how no one ever wants to talk about fight club. it'd be a great concept, if only people would just point you in the direction of one and be nice and welcoming about it.

i look like a normal person, so if you hear someone yelling kamen rider, that's me.

[ and so begins the hunt for purple and horny, with tetora yelling KAMEN! RIDER!!! every now and then. the things we do to entertain ourselves, seriously. ]

[ What the fuck is a Kamen Rider Molly whispers.

It's not really hard to hear someone screaming in a mostly empty corridor, and Molly follows the sound until he rounds a corner and sees - a fairly normal dude. Well played, sir. Molly waves him down — looking about as ridiculous as one would imagine for someone that would be described as purple and horny. He's also heavily scarred and very tattooed. ]

I hope I wasn't supposed to be yelling something back.

Maybe. Plenty of roaming adventurers in every universe I imagine.

[ Molly can already tell this guy is a total party animal. ]

Seems you're inclined to look on the bright side — I like that. [ He chuckles, reaching for the bottle and hovering it, tilted, toward Miller's glass. More? Yes? Say yes or you're not fun. ]

What's the worst place you've been, then? If not an abandoned ship in space.

[ she's heard every possible answer to this she feels like, in this place, already. ]

[ he really is purple and horny. tetora lights up at the whole look of it, it's pretty damn cool. ]

You really fuckin' have horns, what the fuuuck. [ are those real? can he touch? is it rude to just come up and grab those horns or— ] We're not in China, shouting Marco Polo wouldn't be appropriate.

Can you eat eggs?

[ given that he asked if he liked eggs, not ate them. gotta be specific. ]

[ He has a tail too! It's spaded and would be pierced were his piercings and baubles not stripped from him upon arrival. Fucking rude, by the way. ]

Imagine that. And they're real, too. Feel free to see for yourself. [ He tilts his head toward him, offering the curved horns if he wants to touch them. Molly doesn't give a shit. ]

Why wouldn't I? Are only humans allowed to eat eggs now?

[ he's actually pretty respectful of personal space when he reaches up to run the tips of his fingers along the ridges of the man's horns. he's avoiding actual physical touch, for reasons that have everything to do with the shit he's been saddled with - the short version of the story being it's a bad run for everyone involved if skin met skin, where this kid is concerned.

but damn, these are some cool horns. ]

[ a time's old adage miller was fond of by now. maybe he just liked repeating himself, like the truly old man he felt like. ]

It's a station. The worst place I've been is also an abandoned space station, on a rock, packed to the brim with sick and dying people I couldn't help. [ his people. he already knows it won't mean anything to molly so he just holds out his glass to be topped up. may as well now. ]

I haven't technically died yet so hold your grief, alright? I've gotta get everyone out of here before I can die for real.

And that is something I intend to only do once. If you can help it, at least here, I'd recommend the same. [ oh boy is he getting emotional? it's impossible to tell but the answer is y e s. don't be nice tet he hates it. ]

That's okay. There are stages of, like, grief and shit. It still applies when you're dying.

[ he's trying to be sympathetic here, which is hard because he's pretty allergic to it, but he has a soft spot for people who are dead and dying. mostly because he ends up having them in his head, where he's from, and the ones he doesn't kill often don't deserve to die just yet.

Don't worry, I can't die yet either. Not permanently die, anyway. Shit to do and all that, right? It's good to have to have goals.

it's not really a club but if you need to beat the shit out of something i make a decent punching bag according to half the station.

We have much of the station still to unfurl, discoveries to be made. Are you any good at picking locks?

[ he nods, hating that he agrees. goals. they each complete their mission and they can die in peace. it's a nice thought anyway. ]

It just shows up when and where you least expect it. [ he gestures to his get-up and shrugs. ] My gun showed up in my bathroom, ammo in my bed. You been to crew quarters yet?

[Jeez, someone's in a bad mood...not that he can blame him.]

"Here" is Reverie Terminal. "Where" is the part we don't know. We're orbiting a nearby planet, but it's totally foreign to everyone on board.
