TEST DRIVE #002

TEST DRIVE #002

( 0 0 1 ) » WAKE UP
Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter: when you come to, there's an odd taste in your mouth and there's a low-level mechanical hum in the air. Your head hurts and you feel nauseous. You aren't anywhere you know: everything around you is metal, from the floor you lie on all the way to the ceiling. You are dressed in a jumpsuit you definitely weren't wearing before.

"We tried to save the world. I think— I think we did the opposite."

The message repeats on a loop. If you look for its source, you find a comms device on the floor next to you. The logo on its wallpaper says REVERIE TERMINAL. Upon closer inspection, you find the same logo on your jumpsuit.

Welcome to your new home. What choice do you have but to explore your surroundings?
( 0 0 1 . 1 ) » WAKE UP WHERE?
When you wake up, you find that you're not alone. But more importantly, you find that you're in a closet. An empty closet, bar you and your new companion. It's small, cramped, and there is no door that you can see. The ceiling is low, there is barely any lights, only some coming from the tiny flashlight clipped to your suit's shoulder. You cannot be sure that there is any air coming in to the room.

Are these grooves in the wall supposed to mean something?

( 0 0 2 ) » OBSERVATION DECK
There were no windows in the corridor you woke up in and no windows in any of the crew quarters you might have checked for occupants — but there are plenty of windows on the uppermost level of the station, deck 1. In fact, there are windows from floor to ceiling all along the circumference of the station's circular deck, and it's possible to walk along it all. What it shows is a strange solar system you've never seen before and a planet that might resemble one you know, but certainly isn't the same.

You're in space. You don't know where you are. Neither does anyone else.

( 0 0 3 ) » BAR
On deck 3, you find the bar. Tucked away from the crew quarters, it's dimly lit, there are bar stools thrown down on the floor and what looks like some very old drink spills, crusty and dark against the bar top. But there is alcohol here, or at least, what you think is alcohol, in bottles with faded labels, most of them indecipherable. Take a drink, get drunk, start a fight, or start a party? You're stuck on this station, might as well make the most of it, right?

( 0 0 4 ) » SPACEQUAKES
One second, you are is walking. Magnetic boots are on, the ground feels solid enough, for a metal deck in a space station. Everything is perfectly fine, or at least as fine as it can be, given that you still don't know where you are or how you came to be here.

The next moment, it's like everything explodes around you. You're thrown against the wall as sparks erupts from electrical panels, as the whole station rumbles and shakes around you. You fall to the deck, earning yourself scratches from the grating. When you look up, it's like nothing has happened. No wires hanging from open panels, no flickering lights, no more shaking. Like an earthquake in space.

( 0 0 5 ) » NETWORK
The comms device you found next to you when waking up connects to a station-wide network, REVERIE NET. You have the option to post video, voice or text messages.

What will you share?

( 0 0 6 ) » WILDCARD
The station features a variety of locations, from sleeping quarters free for the claiming to a dirty swimming pool and a bar that still holds alcohol (though some of the bottles seem to have been opened a while ago).

Go wild, but don't wreck the place. It's your home for the foreseeable future, after all.

[Oswin. She's heard that before, ages ago. "Clara Oswin Oswald", the Doctor had said, a mouthful of a name that didn't make sense to her at the time.]

I'm sorry. [For startling her, she means, though honestly the blanket apology could apply to so much else. Jesus. Oswin looks so young. Is she one of the ones who died?] My name's Clara. Clara Oswald.
rebelbuilt: (high in the sky the little stars climb)

[personal profile] rebelbuilt 2018-06-30 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
No... I agree, if we were someone would be guarding us. This is different.

[ jyn leans in nosily, almost gasping when she sees bodhi's name and reaching out to tap the screen insistently. ]

I know him! He's a pilot. He's-- he was a friend of my father's.
rebelbuilt: (haunts my reverie)

[personal profile] rebelbuilt 2018-06-30 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there has to be a reason even if we don't know what it is yet.

[ her eyes narrow in determination, but then his words visibly throw her off-kilter. she swallows again, looking down at the grated floor. ]

I remember that, too. [ except it was only moments ago for her. ]
rebelbuilt: (you wander down the lane and far away)

[personal profile] rebelbuilt 2018-06-30 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
That isn't what I said.

[ she just heavily implied it!!! ]

I'm not here to make friends - I'm here to get everyone home.

[ fine. f i n e. a beat and she tips her head, setting her fork down and leaning in a little. ] Even rebel soldiers need a break now and again, I suppose. But just one drink's worth.

[ wait did she just ask u out???? sorta ]
oddbod: (if we're still alive)

observation deck!!

[Clara can't help but feel a fist clench her heart, even as the newcomer turns a cheery smile towards her. God, he's just a kid. No one deserves to be here, but least of all someone scarcely older than her students. Nonetheless, she smooths a calm smile over her anger and returns the nicety.]

Clara.

[She looks down at the planet, fingers resting against the glass. It's been almost two months, and she might have finally tired of this sight. The stars just bring restlessness to her stomach instead of excitement.]

It's a hell of a view. Almost worth the captivity.

[That's mainly a joke, but her voice is gentle and kind.]
eggless: (3)

[personal profile] eggless 2018-06-30 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry?

[Her eyes go a little wide in doe like bewilderment. She's never met this man before, so she's taken back by the fact he thinks she'd lecture him at all. She would, of course, but there's hardly anything happening to lecture him on Except giving his dog space boots. That can't end well for the poor dog.]

You're talking like we've already met before. But we haven't. I can't even remember the last time I lectured someone.
eggless: (11)

[personal profile] eggless 2018-06-30 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
No way that we know of yet. Who would build a space station without escape pods?

[personal profile] eggless 2018-06-30 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Why is this woman apologizing? For once, the fast talking and incredibly chatty Oswin is reduced to stunned silence. It feels odd to be looking at her own face and hearing her own voice, and it takes her mind a few seconds to reboot to deal with it all. When that happens and things start to click, it's like gears fall into place and spin together properly, ensuring that Oswin feels she's able to handle this.

She can handle anything, usually with a smile. This time's no different, her lips curling into a playful grin.
]

Oswin Oswald, Junior Entertainment Manager of the Starship Alaska, reporting for duty.

[There's barely a pause, just long enough for her to get in a breath.]

The first girl I ever fancied, Nina? Her best mate was named Clara. You're not her, obviously, but there's just something about you that I like.
eggless: (Default)

[personal profile] eggless 2018-06-30 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
[At least they're on the same page with the whole prisoners thing. And oh - they're moving on to people they know on board, and Oswin is on board with that. ]

Then we might be caught up in whatever rebellion you mentioned you were a part of.

[Closing out the directory, she pushes away from the console and motions off to the right with a nod of her head.]

Reckon it'd be best to have a proper look around. I'm Oswin, by the way. Oswin Oswald.

[ didn't matter if she or hadn't because jim was taking it as an invitation and already rising to his feet, looking at her expectantly as he does. ]

Well?

[ rebel soldiers don't move that fast, do they? ]

Or are you going to wait for me to bring the bar to you?
episodically: (2558066 (3))

005 because come on, i had to

[personal profile] episodically 2018-06-30 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
un; enterprising

That's a good line. Didn't know I was famous in so many parts of the universe. Flattering really to have reputation even out here.

[ wherever here was. still trying to figure that one out! ]

I don't know what the others are doing but I'm currently staring at the stars, trying to figure out if I recognize them. So far, not having any luck which means I don't think any of the creepy crawlies from my universe are the ones that did this.
oddbod: (they say i'm a control freak)

[personal profile] oddbod 2018-06-30 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
[Clara was prepared for some sort of existential breakdown, or at least a level of distrust. But instead, Oswin seems... chipper.

Chipper, and chatty. It's certainly no mystery whether or not she's one of them.]

Full disclosure, I sort of expected a few more questions right off the bat.
eggless: (14)

[personal profile] eggless 2018-06-30 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Being called on her bubbly facade, Oswin's chipper act starts to crack. Her smile wobbles, and she averts her eyes as she gives a defensive shrug of her shoulders. ]

Think I'll save the questions for after I'm positive all this is real.
oddbod: (trouble is a friend but trouble is a foe)

[personal profile] oddbod 2018-06-30 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Clara’s face softens then, understanding Oswin’s need to mask that anxiety. It’s what she’s been doing every day since she arrived here, after all. She smiles, eyes gentle and tentative.]

If it’s not, I’ve been having one hell of a dream.
onlydoubts: (✘ and it seems to have a vague)

[personal profile] onlydoubts 2018-06-30 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's some kind of an experiment gone wrong, but... right now all we have is guesswork. [ a lot of clues but no answers. ]

I don't know if us being where we are is a good thing or not, but I'm glad you're here. [ alive. the others, they didn't deserve to be hurt or dead. not after they had saved him.

not after all they'd done.

Bodhi knows he's staring. sorry. ]

Thought I was the only one.

[ Working on the replicators has proven more difficult than Erik had anticipated, and he needs a break to clear his head. Going back to his quarters is completely out of the question, not until he can determine a way to tell whether or not his new neighbors are home. So instead he heads for the gym.

And on the way stumbles across a new arrival. He doesn't bother to look as he steps around him, engrossed in studying the replicator repair manual on his device. ]

If they're running low...

[well, if he were more inclined, he'd be gathering the rest himself. would be setting himself up for trading later down the line. but that's something that'd take effort, and he'd much rather take the easier route and enjoy what he has, while he has it. thus, the next glass of "whisky" he pours himself.

and look, there's a second glass he slides down the bar a little. see, he knows how to share sometimes.]

About half a day so far? It's kind of hard to tell up here.

[he's still on the floor when erik arrives, so there's a momentary mad scramble to his feet. still recovering from his last fight, it takes him a little more effort than he'd like to get himself upright. but any pain felt is hidden away, an attempt at nonchalance that's...apparently a waste of time, given that the other man hasn't even looked in his direction yet.]

Hey, wait. [a stumbling start, and then he's reaching out to grab ahold of erik's shoulder.

...please don't look too close though, buddy. he may have left a smudge of two of blood there as well.]

Where the fuck are we? Who're you?

Home...

[the word is a soft rumble as he takes the room in. the one exit. the single bed. the lack of any kind of personality to the room. apollo may have only been here for a month so far, but he'd expect something of the man to be here. some sign that this room was at least being lived in. if it wasn't for the familiar scent in the room, midnighter would have had no idea that this was his. that he'd ever set foot through the doors.

they'll have to fix that. later.

stepping in to the room, midnighter takes a moment to let the door slide shut behind them. time to cut the two of them off from the rest of the station. it means he's free to wrap his arms around apollo without having to fight his computer for control too much. doubly so when he's the one stood behind the other man, forehead pressed to the back of his neck as he soaks it all in.]

Missed you. [and then an even quieter--] M'sorry. [though his apology has nothing to do with the situation at present and everything to do with the mess he made when he left.]

Everyone should know who I am. I'm kind of a big deal.

[ you were just breaking his heart here, wesley. using his lines and not knowing who he was? a huge blow to a substantial ego. ]

That's some pretty intense deduction there. Might want to write it down so we don't forget.

[ that's for not knowing who he was. hmph. ]

Very used to it. Spent the last five years plus on a space ship. But I could park the ship and leave when I wanted to. This is a little different for me.

[ It doesn't feel much like home and Apollo can hear that in Midnighter's voice. But he doesn't say anything more; he can't defend why has been left so bare, other than the fact that he really didn't plan on staying long. And he still doesn't.

He relaxes as Midnighter slides his arms around him, settling against his back. It's a welcome warmth and a familiar touch, one he's missed more than he can express in mere words. He turns, twisting around in Midnighter's arms so that he can face him properly and wrap his own around his husband's familiar form. ]

Oh, are you now? [ He murmurs, amused by the apology. There's nothing about this that could ever be construed as Midnighter's fault. ] And what are you sorry for exactly?

[ whatever rebellion? jyn's eyes flash in concern. ] You've never heard of the Resistance? Against the Empire?

[ surely that's impossible, she-- jyn bites into her lip and straightens her spine. now's no time to deteriorate. ]

Well, Oswin Oswald of the Starship Alaska - I'm Jyn. [ it takes her another moment to admit, because it's usually met with instant recognition and polarizing opinions; but oswin doesn't even know of the resistance. it wouldn't shock her to find her given name would be meaningless as well. ] Jyn Erso. Daughter of Galen Erso.

[ it's a bit warmer as jyn decides to make the effort for a change. the lunch rush is almost through, more people leaving the mess than coming in. ]

I still have some work to do here.
