TEST DRIVE #002

TEST DRIVE #002

( 0 0 1 ) » WAKE UP
Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter: when you come to, there's an odd taste in your mouth and there's a low-level mechanical hum in the air. Your head hurts and you feel nauseous. You aren't anywhere you know: everything around you is metal, from the floor you lie on all the way to the ceiling. You are dressed in a jumpsuit you definitely weren't wearing before.

"We tried to save the world. I think— I think we did the opposite."

The message repeats on a loop. If you look for its source, you find a comms device on the floor next to you. The logo on its wallpaper says REVERIE TERMINAL. Upon closer inspection, you find the same logo on your jumpsuit.

Welcome to your new home. What choice do you have but to explore your surroundings?
( 0 0 1 . 1 ) » WAKE UP WHERE?
When you wake up, you find that you're not alone. But more importantly, you find that you're in a closet. An empty closet, bar you and your new companion. It's small, cramped, and there is no door that you can see. The ceiling is low, there is barely any lights, only some coming from the tiny flashlight clipped to your suit's shoulder. You cannot be sure that there is any air coming in to the room.

Are these grooves in the wall supposed to mean something?

( 0 0 2 ) » OBSERVATION DECK
There were no windows in the corridor you woke up in and no windows in any of the crew quarters you might have checked for occupants — but there are plenty of windows on the uppermost level of the station, deck 1. In fact, there are windows from floor to ceiling all along the circumference of the station's circular deck, and it's possible to walk along it all. What it shows is a strange solar system you've never seen before and a planet that might resemble one you know, but certainly isn't the same.

You're in space. You don't know where you are. Neither does anyone else.

( 0 0 3 ) » BAR
On deck 3, you find the bar. Tucked away from the crew quarters, it's dimly lit, there are bar stools thrown down on the floor and what looks like some very old drink spills, crusty and dark against the bar top. But there is alcohol here, or at least, what you think is alcohol, in bottles with faded labels, most of them indecipherable. Take a drink, get drunk, start a fight, or start a party? You're stuck on this station, might as well make the most of it, right?

( 0 0 4 ) » SPACEQUAKES
One second, you are is walking. Magnetic boots are on, the ground feels solid enough, for a metal deck in a space station. Everything is perfectly fine, or at least as fine as it can be, given that you still don't know where you are or how you came to be here.

The next moment, it's like everything explodes around you. You're thrown against the wall as sparks erupts from electrical panels, as the whole station rumbles and shakes around you. You fall to the deck, earning yourself scratches from the grating. When you look up, it's like nothing has happened. No wires hanging from open panels, no flickering lights, no more shaking. Like an earthquake in space.

( 0 0 5 ) » NETWORK
The comms device you found next to you when waking up connects to a station-wide network, REVERIE NET. You have the option to post video, voice or text messages.

What will you share?

( 0 0 6 ) » WILDCARD
The station features a variety of locations, from sleeping quarters free for the claiming to a dirty swimming pool and a bar that still holds alcohol (though some of the bottles seem to have been opened a while ago).

Go wild, but don't wreck the place. It's your home for the foreseeable future, after all.

Before I arrived here, I would have told you that alien species were strictly science fiction.

[ Says the furry blue mutant. ]

But I meet someone here whose DNA was altered by an intelligent race of aliens, so I suppose they must be real, in some parallel universe. I think it would be pretty groovy to meet an alien, provided they come in peace.

[ Hank, no one says "groovy" anymore. ]

[ the sound of her name has her whipping her head around - too fast too fast - hair flicking up into her eyes. she pushes it aside in frustration, stepping out from the window and nearly colliding with the man. it takes her a full second to realize who it is and then her shock is palpable. when she awoke here, it never even occurred to her the others would have been captured. though perhaps it should have. another second has jyn wrapping thin arms around a thin neck, heart beating fast against his. ]

Are you real? [ her eyes fill with tears. did this mean they succeeded? she pulls back altogether just as quickly, clearing her throat and wiping at her eyes. she's not entirely acting herself, maybe. it's a good excuse, so she tacks on with a bit of humor only her own team would be able to pluck from her usual monotonous tone: ] Am I real?

[ Unaware of what's going in Midnighter's head, Apollo explains the situation as they venture down the deck 3 corridor. If only there had been someone to explain to him all of this stuff when he arrived, then maybe he would have picked a bigger room. ]

The cabins are automatically assigned to the first person who walks in with a new comms device. Mine is cabin four, deck three...

[ Right next door to what was Kara's room. Apollo forces himself not to look at the door in question, nor think of the vacant room beyond it. Not right now, at least. Instead, he gestures at his own cabin and the door that slides back automatically at his arrival. ]

It's not much but it's home... for now.

[ It really isn't much. There's nothing personal to Apollo on display - nothing that sets it out from any other cabin. The bed is barely slept in, the walls and shelves are bare. It's just a basic room, impersonal and lonely. Apollo's home for the past month. ]

[ he's barely had a moment to process his shock at her presence here, before Jyn has pulled her arms around him - Bodhi still frozen to the spot.

against him, she's warm, and solid and obviously alive. not a figment of this place, but alive. finally, with this knowledge, he brings his own arms up to return the embrace. there's so much to tell her. what he's learned, since his arrival (alright, it's admittedly not much, but important, none the less). swallowing past the lump in his throat, he nods and manages a response.

there was a time where he'd thought maybe, this was not. that he was still rotting away in the cells, or -- ]

That's no way to make friends.

And are you looking in on me all the time? How do you know I'm not working? Even someone like me needs a break every now and then and I like the ambiance of the bar.

[The fun part about having to do this five times a day is that she has to wonder if she is imposing on whoever has slipped in to hide from people today. Sorry, mysterious strangers. She doesn't always come here to talk to God all five times, but she's here now. You are going to have to deal with the murmured prayers in Arabic and shifting stances on a converted bedsheet.

Honestly Kamala might be more frustrated if when she did finish there wasn't someone here actually distressed and not just being anti-social around her. Her gaze lingers as she tries to come up with something wise or profound to say. She comes up short. She's not really cut out to be the wise chapel person, huh?]

[Oswin stops mid-step, frowning as she rubs at the back of her head. She's managed to hit it in her panic upon coming to, and it's currently throbbing. After everything that's happened to her the past year or so, waking up here isn't really all that surreal. She's not even sure it's real yet, actually. It could all be some sort of coping mechanism her mind's come up with and she's still stuck in the casing of a murderous alien.

Suppose she can't blame the daleks for wanting to keep hold of a total screaming genius like herself.
]

Starship Alaska, last I checked.

[Which is a slight lie. The last time she was alive she was on the Starship Alaska. She's not about to admit she had been on an asylum planet after that. Especially not since she last remembers surviving in the cockpit of the crashed ship.]

Thing is, I'm just the junior entertainment manager. I don't have direct access to the nav comms, but if we can find a terminal lazing about I might be able to pull up a location.

[ jyn wrinkles her nose, still struggling to lift her eyes out of the squint they'd slouched into, a slight migraine pressing on her forehead even as she regards the other woman. ]

Starship... Alaska. [ she's never heard of an operation like that - she'd never even heard of people naming a ship like that at all. ] Sounds made up.

[ it's flat as she finally pushes through the pain to make proper eye contact. it's like being asleep in a pitch black room and having someone wake you up by turning all the lights on at once. ]

Rogue... rogue one. [ her callsign. does oswin recognize it? she straightens up, trying to appear more like the admiral she'd come to be than the cowardly girl she'd been. ] I'm with the Rebellion. I'm going to get you out of here.

[ jyn doesn't peg herself mysterious at all, but the small voice does have her looking up, dread knotting in her belly as she hopes the child isn't addressing her. but of course she is. the look she affixes kamala with is weary, but she's sitting up measure-by-measure, like pitching a tent. how pathetic must she be that a child pities her? if she had enough self-awareness, she might realize she's only a few years older than the girl for all intents and purposes, but it still feels bad. to be looked at like that. ]

I'm the last person you need to be worrying about.
rebelbuilt: (sometimes i wonder)

[personal profile] rebelbuilt 2018-06-29 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Bodhi, after what we've seen, do you truly believe anything is impossible?

[ and yet what he says... should be. she swallows, because of course jyn believes him. she'd believed him from the moment she'd seen him - long before he ever started speaking. he's the pilot, he's the messenger. he wouldn't lie about this, or probably anything else. not to her. ]

Did you come here to deliver a new message? Did something happen?

Bit presumptuous of you.

[Oswin thinks that this girl wanting to help her is precious and genuinely kind, but the truth is she doesn't necessarily want to go anywhere. Alive is much better than dead, and being here is a thousand times better than where she was before. So she's not too keen on the whole escaping idea, at least not until after they figure out where they are and what the immediate threat may be.

Her primary concern right now is tracking down her location. That, and taking a moment to appreciate her company. She's easy on the eyes and seems to be proactive, a trait Oswin's always appreciated. So she'll make plenty of direct eye contact.

My ship was a cruise ship. Leisure class. It was supposed to be my ticket to seeing the stars.

[ once she's gotten her bearings, she starts to look around the deck for anything that might give them answers. then she's tapping oswin's arm and pointing. ] There, a console. [ jyn beelines for the terminal and starts pulling up any data she can. ]

Reverie. Like, a dream...? [ she looks up at the other woman, bewildered as she tugs her own jumpsuit away from her body to read the insignia. sure thing, it's the same as the computer. ] Why aren't we being interrogated? Oswin Oswald | Doctor Who

[personal profile] eggless 2018-06-29 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
observation deck
[Seeing stars up close isn't anything new to her. It's old news, really. But something about them manages to draw her in anyway. It might be the fact she's got a second chance at life and has some actual freedom now. Maybe it's because she's never seen this system before and is trying to piece together every nook and cranny she can see out beyond the station. Whatever the case, when Oswin stumbles upon the observation deck she camps out and makes it feel like home. After a year of mentally being trapped in a cockpit, the expanse she sees here makes her feel light and grateful. She doesn't have the comm device she's used to having here, but that doesn't stop her from using the new one to make a voice log.]

Day one, station name unknown. Woke up an hour or so ago, wearing a jumpsuit only my mother would love on me. Does absolutely nothing for my hips. [She pauses, nose wrinkling up as her head tips off to the side.] Despite crew quarters being present, not feeling pressed to take one myself. Verdict's still out on whether or not Chinboy and his mates were real, but hopes are high that I can track them down whenever I'm able to get planet side.

[Another pause, and this time she looks over to whoever's close by. Her device is paused in recording as she hops up to her feet and points out the planet]

Please tell me there're transports here.

bar
[By the time Oswin finds the bar, there really isn't a lot left to drink. She's not big on drinking (whiskey is sincerely the eleventh most disgusting thing she's ever had) but she feels like she really could use something strong right about now. There's a few bottles left with minimal amounts inside. Maybe if she combines them, she can make something to take the edge off her mounting anxiety.

Gathering up a few of the bottles in her arms, she makes her way over to the edge of the bar with a bounce to her step. Someone's sitting in a stool there, and she flashes them a dimpled grin. Time to see if her skills as a junior entertainment manager can still be put to any good use.
]

I'll share if you don't criticize my impressive lack of bartending skills.

network ; un: oswin
Right, so, not to be a total buzzkill or anything but has anyone attempted to establish contact with any of the planets nearby? If we sort out where the escape pods are, it'd help to have prior communication so we're not just popping in unannounced. That tends to end in hostile negotiations, I've discovered.

wildcard
[Oswin isn't going to be sitting idle, so she can be found anywhere and everywhere. She'll spend a lot of time poking her head around corners and into any room she can peek into. The mess hall is where she'll likely bother the most people, slipping next to a stranger to chat them up while eating. Hit me up at [plurk.com profile] porgs if there's something you have in mind.]

[Everyone is mysterious when you're the youngest of the group. Kamala frowns at Jyn as she tries to make sense of her. Because even scary people need to be worried about!

[Oswin hesitates when the console's pointed out to her, but she knows that her own apprehension can't get in the way of a job that needs to be done. Her feet drag a little on her way over to join her new friend, but she makes her way there and watches for a moment before reaching out to place her hand on the other woman's shoulder.]

Why do you assume we're prisoners someplace?

[The fact that the word dream was mentioned at all has her on edge though. It eats at her and keeps her questioning the reality of all this. Maybe it's just another figment of her imagination, a desperate attempt to cling on to humanity and existing. She swallows a lump that forms in her throat and gently edges her way in to get closer to the console.]

If we are, we wouldn't have access to a terminal. Specially not one as basic as this.

[ Erik's been spending as little time in his quarters as possible lately, due to the sudden influx of neighbors. For all his talk of how Charles needs to prepare for the inevitable, it has occurred that he will need to prepare as well. Charles regaining his powers means that Charles regains access to his thoughts, among other things.

He's just not ready for that with the current circumstances.

So he goes to the observation deck in an attempt to make the necessary plans, with the necessary distance in case the serum is wearing off faster than expected. But the annoying woman who self-righteously made a mess in the hallway a few weeks ago is there, yammering on to herself about something or other. He does his best to tune her out, and is successful enough that it takes him a moment to realize she's trying to talk to him.

Her question is perplexing. He looks at her for a long, silent moment, trying to figure out what game she's playing. ]

Would you let strangers aboard your leisure craft without verifying their IDs?

Something isn't right here.
