TEST DRIVE #002

TEST DRIVE #002

( 0 0 1 ) » WAKE UP
Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter: when you come to, there's an odd taste in your mouth and there's a low-level mechanical hum in the air. Your head hurts and you feel nauseous. You aren't anywhere you know: everything around you is metal, from the floor you lie on all the way to the ceiling. You are dressed in a jumpsuit you definitely weren't wearing before.

"We tried to save the world. I think— I think we did the opposite."

The message repeats on a loop. If you look for its source, you find a comms device on the floor next to you. The logo on its wallpaper says REVERIE TERMINAL. Upon closer inspection, you find the same logo on your jumpsuit.

Welcome to your new home. What choice do you have but to explore your surroundings?
( 0 0 1 . 1 ) » WAKE UP WHERE?
When you wake up, you find that you're not alone. But more importantly, you find that you're in a closet. An empty closet, bar you and your new companion. It's small, cramped, and there is no door that you can see. The ceiling is low, there is barely any lights, only some coming from the tiny flashlight clipped to your suit's shoulder. You cannot be sure that there is any air coming in to the room.

Are these grooves in the wall supposed to mean something?

( 0 0 2 ) » OBSERVATION DECK
There were no windows in the corridor you woke up in and no windows in any of the crew quarters you might have checked for occupants — but there are plenty of windows on the uppermost level of the station, deck 1. In fact, there are windows from floor to ceiling all along the circumference of the station's circular deck, and it's possible to walk along it all. What it shows is a strange solar system you've never seen before and a planet that might resemble one you know, but certainly isn't the same.

You're in space. You don't know where you are. Neither does anyone else.

( 0 0 3 ) » BAR
On deck 3, you find the bar. Tucked away from the crew quarters, it's dimly lit, there are bar stools thrown down on the floor and what looks like some very old drink spills, crusty and dark against the bar top. But there is alcohol here, or at least, what you think is alcohol, in bottles with faded labels, most of them indecipherable. Take a drink, get drunk, start a fight, or start a party? You're stuck on this station, might as well make the most of it, right?

( 0 0 4 ) » SPACEQUAKES
One second, you are is walking. Magnetic boots are on, the ground feels solid enough, for a metal deck in a space station. Everything is perfectly fine, or at least as fine as it can be, given that you still don't know where you are or how you came to be here.

The next moment, it's like everything explodes around you. You're thrown against the wall as sparks erupts from electrical panels, as the whole station rumbles and shakes around you. You fall to the deck, earning yourself scratches from the grating. When you look up, it's like nothing has happened. No wires hanging from open panels, no flickering lights, no more shaking. Like an earthquake in space.

( 0 0 5 ) » NETWORK
The comms device you found next to you when waking up connects to a station-wide network, REVERIE NET. You have the option to post video, voice or text messages.

What will you share?

( 0 0 6 ) » WILDCARD
The station features a variety of locations, from sleeping quarters free for the claiming to a dirty swimming pool and a bar that still holds alcohol (though some of the bottles seem to have been opened a while ago).

Go wild, but don't wreck the place. It's your home for the foreseeable future, after all.

There are several thoughts flying through his mind, but he'll have a better time analyzing them when he isn't floating. He can't propel himself or do much of anything but... well spin.

"No one has been to space where I'm from!" is all he can find to clarify, because he knows that'll be different. That either tells him that this woman is from a radically different place, or a different time. Maybe both.

Something that isn't too foreign to him in comparison to space travel.

"Can you fix it?" Hopefully before he starts getting motion sickness.

Haha. Oh my god?

[ but god, does she sound impressed. same, honestly?? when shepard turns around, she braces herself, waiting for the inevitable questions- what are you? are you a demon? an angel?

so when what actually comes out is an implication about her age, venus can't help but stare dumbfounded for a moment.
]

...what? [ and then, as that fully sinks in, she just. sort of crosses her arms and tries very hard to not look like she's panicking. ] Haha. Um. I don't think there's a minimum drinking age in space?

[ that's what she's been led to believe! sort of! at least it was a good enough justification for her at the time!! ]
hopefragment: saying i fell just isn't working (i'm gonna tell them i wrestled a bear*)

Oh... thanks.

[Implying more people might spit on him??

He'll accept the handkerchief, though, setting it near his console. Boy, she sure does take food seriously. Not that he can blame her, having risked his health repeatedly by trying to eat what comes out of the processors.]

Umm... have you talked to Haru yet? I know she's trying to work on a hydroponics garden. Hopefully that works out.

Good. [Says Jasnah, when he tells her this.] Because I'm going to find some.

[And he should join in the search.

She hasn't realized that his arm is a new problem, or the first thing she'd offer would be medical care. As it is;]

I haven't seen you before. Have you just arrived? Do you need a meal?

( Curtis has to admire an attitude like that, gung ho and determined. He'd honestly thought those two traits had been beaten and starved out of him but he'd managed to pull the remnants from somewhere deep inside of him in order to try and get to the front of the train.

Now, there's no train and Curtis isn't sure he has anything but exhaustion and pain left inside of him. )

Pretty new, yeah. I woke up here a little while ago.

( When you were expecting to be dead, waking up was a strange and dizzying thing. It had take him some time to acclimate. )

Didn't know this place even had food. I hadn't gotten that far.

( In his mind's eye, he sees the image of a protein block and has to fight the urge to vomit. )

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-21 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Let's go there. It's as good a place to talk as any, and you may be here some time. You should know where to get a meal.

[She turns to lead the way, and remembers to say, this time;]

I'm Jasnah Kholin. Jasnah is fine.

"Was that not the first fucking thing you did?" Shepard asked, more confused than actually bothered.

Why would that not be the first thing anyone did on a new station...well, maybe second. Killing any local unchained AIs was usually first, second was figuring out if the place was going to blow or not.

"Well shit, let's go find whatever's doing that. Come on."
cmdr_renegade: (Are we really having this conversation?)

[personal profile] cmdr_renegade 2018-05-21 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
That's a Spacer answer if I ever heard one.

[There probably is, there was when she last checked, but Shepard doesn't really give a shit. She eyes the teenager and the flustered set of her arms (wings didn't look too ruffled, oddly) and then gestures to the scattered glasses.]

Grab a glass if you want some. We're being civilized today.
cmdr_renegade: (MUFASA?)

[personal profile] cmdr_renegade 2018-05-21 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Ah shit.

Peter, wherever he is from, is pre-space flight. That complicates things but the immediate threat is of Peter vomiting in zero-g. The guy looks green as hell and, frankly, Shepard is not down to deal with that.

"Kind of, hold on," Shepard instructs with a mildly chagrinned expression. She is not an adept, using biotics is hard for her which is why she generally only uses them to punch people into oblivion. Pulling two people down to the floor is not so different from that...sort of.

A blue light surrounds Shepard's head and fist as she focuses. It thins and dims as it spreads around her and thins farther as it appears around Peter. The force-field is uneven and kind of amateurish but it's sufficient to pull them down to standing on the floor. She keeps her closed fist at her side as she focuses and gestures with the piece of makeshift rebar she just ripped off the wall.

"Lets find a better section with more gravity, come on."

002 slams into this finally

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-21 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Amos doesn't mean to slam into the guy. To be fai he's not really looking where he's going, unspooling wire to connect one console to another in the observation deck in an attempt to develop Hank's reach throughout the station.

So, accidentally walking backwards into a wall. Not a wall. A human being. He's impressive, even for Amos. ]

I'd recommend you move, buddy. Kinda running an experiment, here, we'll be done in fifteen.
why_me: (ch: the hell?)

[ Garion opens his mouth because he wants to ask what any of this is about, then looks at the man in the middle of his business, closes his mouth, and steps aside. Because he's curious, he is. He's curious about this man, and what he's doing, and what that strange rope on the floor is. So what he's going to do is watch and listen and possibly follow him around a little, though he will make an effort to stay at a goodly distance so he doesn't also get in the way again. ]

( It's going to take some time to get used to hospitality, Curtis thinks. To have people actually offering to help instead of turning their backs or smiling cruelly before beating them senseless.

He doesn't trust it but he does follow along because he is hungry. )

Curtis Everett.

( After a pause, he adds: )

Curtis is fine. You've been here for awhile?

It's difficult to tell time passing. There's a clock, but the hours in the day run short. I'd say a dozen days, perhaps a little more.

[But she's having a deeply disorienting experience, with Roshar's strange orbit being so different from Earth's.]

[ If the guy wants to look at him, fine. Amos is used to looks - because he's bigger than most, because he's an Earther in the middle of Belters, because he carries guns as big as his arms sometimes - so he completely ignores it, continuing to unspool the wire until he gets to the wall and the console.

The guy is standing close, still looking. Like he's never seen anything like it before. Amos is used to people not knowing about space on this station, but this guy is taking the cake. Is he a bit slow? ]

The one we're currently orbiting.

[ of course there was evidence to suggest that the planet - whatever it was called - had not been their intended destination at all, but that was simply speculation at this point. ]

Have you not seen the Observation Deck?
